Tuesday on the Mission Trip
West Virginia Mission Trip, Day 3, August 8, 2017.
God continued to bless us today, this time with
the fine sun-filled sky for starters.
Once again we split up into 2 teams in order to help out at 2 sites at
once.
Team “Joni” consisted of Donna, Shawn, Kelly,
Greg, Jean, Dave, and myself. We bought Joni new cabinets for her kitchen,
and once again she was brought to tears.
Shawn and Greg continued with the plumbing both under the house in the
tight crawl space, and the bathroom.
They dug a hole just outside the house and found all kinds of
interesting pipes. Jean and Dave and I
helped with the taping of the cracks and mudding of the drywall in the
hallway. Donna (who was totally
flawless) assisted Kelly with hanging drywall in the bathroom. Then Project manager Gary and Kelly discussed
the electrical in the bathroom. All went
well there, and much was accomplished.
Joni was also there, and worked longer than we did.
On the
other side of town Team “Michelle” had to wait for more supplies, and Pastor
Bob and Kyle got so bored they decided to smash down a wall. Or maybe it was intentional. Anyways they helped to start building another
one. The other 2 groups included Elvis,
Pete, and Pastor Peter who fixed the roof over the building part where we were
working. And Becky and Autumn (along
with Michelle) put up insulation. Two
mishaps though: Kyle got stung by a wasp
on his arm. Michelle’s Dad Rodney stopped
by to pick up the now full goose-neck trailer, but then later that day fell
down and had to be taken to the hospital.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Rodney.
Once we
arrived back at home base Shawn cooked us chicken on the outside grill
(provided by the church) while the kitchen ladies heated baked beans and served
potato salad and coleslaw and cooked broccoli.
During our meal Pastor Pete shared fascinating insights into his
heritage, and then the group shared snake stories (not about Adam and Eve.)
For
evening devotions led by Pastor Bob, we studied the parable about the wheat and
the weed (no one needs to sow weeds in my garden, they are already there.) Then we talked about the pros and cons of
Mountain-top Mining, and the benefits of missions like ours. Later a few of us went to the nearby Wal-Mart
for supplies.
Thanks to Jean for her patience in helping me
by handing over the necessary supplies while I was high on the ladder, Shawn
for his extreme generosity for going the extra mile in making sure he could do
all he could to help with Project Joni, and all the rest of us who showed love
and joy in their work.
I better
sign off now so that Pastor Peter can begin to post the pictures. God Bless, Clark.
